Stephanie Meyers is the author of the Twilight series.  These books revolve around a clan of vampires (the Cullen’s) and a young love struck teenager named Bella.  They made her first book “Twilight” into a movie, and there have been mixed reviews on the changes made to her book.

My niece “Toni” is an avid fan of the Twilight series, and she’s read them all.  According to her she wasn’t at all impressed with the additions they made in the movie.  For example, at the end of the movie they show the vampire “Victoria” skulking in the shadows at Bella’s prom.  This never actually happened in the book, and for those of you Twilight fans that hadn’t had a chance to read all the books yet this gave you insight into the following books. Especially since Victoria doesn’t actually show up again until the third book “Eclipse”.  Not that she isn’t alluded to in the second book “New Moon”. 

There are a couple other drastic changes in the movie as well.  Like the scene at the boat yard where Laurent’s clan attacks one of Charlie’s friends.  Agreed it added a little more action to the movie, but it wasn’t really necessary.  All of us vampire buffs know how vicious vampires can be.  Then the other changes they made were to some of the individual characters and how they carried themselves.  It appears they were trying to add depth to their personalities, but why?  For example they made Eric’s character come off slightly gay even though he was dating a girl.  Duh!!  But all in all it was an excellent movie; they just didn’t quite follow the book too well.  I’ll be interested to see what happens in “New Moon” ….  “New Moon” is due out in November 2009.
