Neopets is a franchise that started out as an online pet-based website. The actual pet service was set in a fictional online setting called Neopia. In this backdrop, users could log on and interact with one another as they would in the real world (i.e. buy and sell goods etc.). The overall online plan was developed by designer Adam Powell and marketer Donna Williams.

Neopets itself was an ordinary concept. Users could bond with their neopets as they would with real pets. Thus, they could feed the pets, play with them and buy them outfits. In a slight deviation from real life, the users could also teach their pets fighting tricks.

This is included in Neopets Premium and offers various extra features notebooks and plushies. Even in the free section, users get the option to buy customizable features for their pets. This can be anything from accessories to exotic food. There is even an auction service where users can bid for hard-to-find items.

Neopets also have a games section where users can play the 100-plus games that are available. Most of these games involve some type of Neopet. The games are divided into various genres, ranging from sporty type games to action-adventure games. Players can even play against each other in some of these games.

Neopets is now available in a variety of languages. This is testimony to its popularity around the world.
